Its not massivly high but recently on start up and for a good couple of miles oil pressure is sitting at about "4"

Ever since i got it it sat at about 3 - more or less regardelss of what you were doing.

Anythign to worry about?

Its a mk1. Eunos.

oil pressure fluctuates with heat and pump/engine rpm - 2-3k rpm from cold i read about 4 kg/cm2 maybe a bit over, on a really hot sunny day after a hard drive with the engine idling i can see about 1 kg/cm2 or a bit less

One the Eunos I've just sold (1992 with about 60k on it) the oil pressure is up around the 5 mark when really cold, sitting at about the vertical mark when hot and moving, and about 1 to 1.5 at hot idle.

On my 1992 1.6 daily heap with a clean recon engine it starts at about 4 when cold and then anywhere between 1 to 3 dep. upon load.

It should be higher when cold then drop down quite a lot when hot (after about 5 miles or so), and it should move up and down as the engine revs - if it's always reading 3 then that doesn't sound right to me. Hot idle should be about 1 to 1.5, full bootful when hot should be about 3 to 4.

Have you fitted an oil pressure gauge or are you on about the middle gauge on the dash? I always thought that was oil temperature.
On that note, that gauge used to sit bang upright, but now it sits more over to the right. I've changed the oil but am wondering if there is a problem with the oil pump.

Should be ok minx , the dummy guage on the 1.8 just registers a reading when all is ok , and drops to L if oil pressure is lost , thats why ive replaced mine with a proper guage and sender , just get both out of a 1.6 and fit .

looks loads better in the KG Works panel than the dummy guage smile

Mine sits almost dead halfway between the two middle marks.

Hmmm interesting! You learn something new everyday eh? Thanks for that...off to ebay/mx5 parts/mx5 heaven now to get a new gauge.

don't forget the oil pressure sender as well it screws into the block by the oil filter

early 1.8s have a proper oil gauge though (mine definitely did) - make sure yours really is a fake one before replacing!
