i am about to order genuie madza 1.6 water pump. and there is no gasket suppled with that. for that price, it should be.

Should i buy one or use gasket paste?

(off to have a heart attack on prices)

I bought a genuine one last time around and found the casting was appauling quality.

The 'pattern' ones visually look at least as good - and usually come with the gaskets.

fitted genuine water pump from mx5 parts and it leaked after 18 months ,(may have been my fault though as the alternater belt had been over tight and could have stressed the pump bearings causing leak?)
fitted one of their non-gen cheaper ones with gasket and it has been fine for two and half years now .think non-gen have plastic impeller aswell that dosn't corode like the tin ones on the genuine pumps

just fitted a genuine mazda one, and the outer casting did look a bit crap, the machined mating surface was almost mirror like though, so i wasn't too concerned. according to mx5parts since they're machined to tighter tolerences they don't need a pre cut gasket as such

hmm.. hopefully that is the case! that or not enough / incorrect gasket sealant. i was under the impression fiat/lancia/VAG etc. always had problems with plastic impeller pumps - they used to fracture and fall apart from heat cycling presumably

i'd stick with metal, unless you put water in your cooling system?>!
