Well my shocks are feeling a tad long in tooth (read getting pretty shagged) so it may be time for replacement soon and I'm starting to look into suspension options. While there may well be a difference in whats available for you lot in the UK and me in NZ, what do we like?

There are some fairly cheap second-hand Tein struts available from on MX5 parts outfit here but I'm wondering if they'd be a bit stiff for the road? I also don't want to go tooo much lower than standard (do to incorrigible gravel habits), but I do have a Subaru as well so if I decide to make the MX5 a bit more track-focussed its not the end of the world.

Any clever suggestions or witty remarks?

Makes me laugh.

I really don't have any good advice for Mk1 shocks in NZ though. I guess anything is available anywhere in the world at the right price but what that price would be I have no idea.

I have Tein Superstreet on mine and I would say they are absolutely fine for road use.

hehe

What do you do if your elephant has three balls? Walk him and send the rhino in to bat!

I'm sure someone will follow the connection...

Bear walks up to bar, leans on it, looks at barman....silence....yet more silence......

Bear says "Pint of lager please".
Barman "Sure thing mate but why the big pause?"
Bear "I'm a fking bear aren't I?"

More usefully, you might try Geoff Walton on the OC forum; he's in Oz so may have a handle on local <relative term> suppliers?

Thanks - supply isn't so much a problem, there are a few outfits in NZ and I'm on the NZ MX5 forum as well, just trying to get an idea of good value performance setups etc.

scratchchin

Koni adjustables vs Tein (not adjustable AFAIK, waiting for more info on whic model), any opinions? Both been offered second-hand in good condition, Koni slightly more expensive but not a huge difference.

Adjustable would be nice as you are concerned about compromised ride quality.

thumbup Good point - Its not the comfort that I'm worried about, just the car not being too low and stiff to handle well on bumpy roads and loose stuff. Adjustables would be a good solution to the road/track compromise smile

I too have a lot of bumpy/pot-holed country lanes in my day-to-day and will be looking for adjustable shocks when I rustle up the readies for replacing my OE kit. That way I can stiffen them up for the odd track day smile
