Can anyone recommend a good bucket seat that fits a MX-5? Looking to do a few track days and don’t want to spend lots.

Many people fit Elise seats, or, if you can find any; there are the kevlar Recaros fitted to the RS-Ltd MX-5 as standard. The seats in my Elise weren't particularly comfortable over longer distances but fine for trackdays etc.

If you do go for Elise seats look for S2 seats. They are much more comfortable than S1 seats. S2 Probax seats are very comfortable (for what they are) but usually cost double what you'd pay for older S2 seats.

Elise seats have gone up in value considerably (presumably due to MX5 owners)

If you want a track seat (rather than a road seat) simply buy a fibreglass one off Ebay - it will be ligher, cheaper and give more support.

Is there any restrictions with the MX-5 with what seats will go in and has anyone got any suggestions to make or model of seat? I am 6ft if that makes a difference.

I just bought a new pair of Cobra Monaco S with MX5 frames for £300 all in, I would have fitted them this weekend had the frames come by then, but sods law dicated they arrived today and I'm not back in the country for a couple of weeks...

I was looking at seats on ebay but second hand seats without frames were going for £150+, so add on £80 for the H frames and I decided I might as well go new.

Got them from this place, i'll let you know how I get on with them once I get round to fitting them!

If you fancy some other seats, then this should help you out

(incidentally, any one want to buy a pair of black mk2.5 fabric seats in good condition in a couple of weeks time? wink)

I will look forward to hearing how they went in and if you have any pictures once fitted I would be grateful.

Do you have or are you planning to have a roll bar as well? If so what one? I have seen that most people go for a hard dog but they seem expensive, the other option is one from TR Lane but some people say that they do not fit to strong enough areas.

Does any one have any thoughts or has any one fitted one from TR Lane?

I have a style bar fitted at the moment, which offers some stiffening of the frame but no roll-over protection. If I could work out how to get it off i'd probably replace it with a real roll bar at some point wink

The latest TR Lane design looks very strong. I have one of their earlier ones in my car and I trust it. Having turned an MX-5 over before I can say that any decent 4 point bar will be a worthwhile investment.

I'll be helping to fit one on Sunday at the PlanetMX5/OC tech day at Maidenhead Honda/Mazda dealer.
Tim from TR Lane should also be there...
