JUst got back from a summer evening pootle, and noticed that the gear stick gaiter and the surrounding plastic were quite warm, i'd go as far as to say hot!
Noticed it the other day as well but wasn't sure if it was just the sun.
Possible cause?
Rubber boots worn on gearstick?
Missing heatsheild or soemthing below?
Cheers

Can't speak for MX-5s but it was very noticeable in my old Land Rover - if you've driven a long way a gearlever will transmit some of the heat from the gearbox oil upwards - after all, there is a lot of energy going through that box, and if only a tiny percentage comes up the selector shafts / lever it will warm up.

I beg to differ - my left leg felt like it had suffered 3rd degree burns as it rested against the bulkhead firewall.......it's just the hot weather & nothing to worry about.Stickers said:
