For 2 years of reading PH forums and the multitude of 'what car' threads I decided to take the plunge and pick up a low rent MX5...

It seems it's easier said than done to find one for a bag of sand in the middle of summer with MOT and Tax.

But after 2 weeks of hitting refresh on Thursday night my prayers were answered when this advert landed... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1109956.htm

I emailed immediately, followed up with a call in the morning and today drove 470 miles to Hull and back to pick her up.

£900, with 4 months tax 7 months MOT and half a tank of fuel. Perfect just perfect. She's not a minter, but a good honest car. Yay, I just can't wait to get fettling!

Welcome to the club mate!... Looks a good buy! Is it a 1.6 or a 1.8? Any other bits on it?

Its a 1.6 according to the advert.

Congrats, I'm jealous - I've just set my heart on getting an MX-5. Likely to be close to a year before I can afford to mind.

I love the MX-5s.. They feel so 'proper'.. Nice close, short gearbox.. Good steering feel.

Will own one when insurance will let me.

Its always good to get to drive them at work biggrin

It's a G-reg so it has to be a 1.6.
Looks like good car, I hope it turns out to be worth the wait and the long drive. I did a 280 mile round trip to view mine and then repeated the trip a week later to buy it so you beat me in terms of distance but not overall miles biggrin

The mariner blue paintwork hides the tesco car park dents very well I've found!

Did I mention I've still not got it home? I couldn't get anyone near me (including the missus) to come with me to Hull so I picked up a friend from Birmingham on the way through yesterday. So I had to leave it as his house 90 miles away frown I'm going to try and pick it up this afternoon...

The first thing I've found is that it seem places like http://www.mx5parts.co.uk can make it very easy to empty your wallet!

Looks a cracker that, Mariner Blue is a lovely colour, I think its 'THE' colour for the Mk1, you know, the one that Bburago would use when making a model...

There great just as they care these cars, especially for £900.

now you just have to sign up to mx5 parts and lose the pea shooter, remove the fog light, machine polish it, buy some chrome, fit an air filter so it bwoarps, lower it, get it aligned, buy a smaller steering wheel, git bucket seats... etc etc!
