Anyone else like driving in the rain with the roof down?
Discussion
Coming home from work on Friday, when setting off it seemed clear enough to put the top down (ie. it wasn't actually raining too hard at that moment), but after about 10 minutes it was raining hard enough to need the wipers on fast and still barely be able to see the car in front, water cascading off my cap's peak, yet I was loving it.
The car was a tad wet inside (some small puddles in the seats etc..) but it seems to have dried out now.
I hope some other owners do this and that it's not just me? I could see a few odd looks from "sensible" motorists....

I have been 'caught' topless in the rain a couple of times - one particular occasion stands out I was driving along the A55 to an MOT & the heavens emptied, so bad that the rain was bouncing a good 6" off the tarmac.
@ 60mph+ it was surreal, as if 'Pickard' had anounced "sheilds up" with just a few drops on the tonnau cover and nothing more - however I fear this would have been a completely different story if I had been stuck in traffic & forced to slow down!
The faces on the other car drivers as I passed is something I'll not soon forget

As long as you're going at over the 'dry speed'...
I didn't find the dry speed that day, even at 60 I was getting soaked. I think I'd have been dryer if I went and stood under the shower. As long as you're going at over the 'dry speed'...
Any thing above, and it needs to be torrential to get you a little damp - nothing more.

I try to honour my promise to myself that; If it's dry, & looks like it will remain so for the journey, I will always go topless.
So I get caught out quite a bit. Mostly 35-40mph I'm pretty dry & quite enjoy hearing the rain pinging off the style bar like bullets.
It's stopping at junctions/lights etc that gets me instantly wet. That does amuse fellow motorists- so I'm performing a public service then :-)

A few years ago I was on the M6 toll, roof down, windblocker in place. It began to rain. It rained heavier, and heavier still. I studiously ignored it, repeating to myself the mantra "It is NOT raining...it is an illusion.." Most of the rain passed right over me but eventually it was coming down so heavily I became soaked, so had to pull over under the cover of a bridge to put the roof up.
When lightning stuck the bridge above me, I nearly sh@t myself...

I discovered this yesterday! I too had the wipers on fast, but not a drop came in. I think it partly depends on wind direction, too. Subject to that, I was fine until I stopped. Then I was glad I had the fabric roof, not the new fangled metal one.
As far as I am concerned, if it is dry, the roof's down and that's the end of it. I once got out with ice in my hair...
