I'm borrowing a family member's MX5 for the weekend in a few months for a trip to France - however, the problem is that I'm 6'5" and as such my legs are so long that my knees sit either side of the standard steering wheel - and therefore the door won't close! I need to find a smaller steering wheel so I can actually get in the blasted thing and wondered if somebody here might have one kicking about that I can buy cheaply. I've had a look on some MX5 owners clubs but can see nothing for sale at the moment - and eBay doesn't seem to have anything except brand new ones, which will cost me nigh £100 including the boss - which is a bit too much for just one weekend away.

Does anybody have anything about? Doesn't have to be pretty, just functional, and ideally the boss too.

Thanks in advance smile

What year of MX5 is it? If it's a 2001+ then it might be easier to fit a lower seat rather than a smaller steering wheel wink

I have a MK2.5 and find the all in one seat/headrest seats sit higher that the MK2 seats with detachable headrest

Any suggestions about how to make seat lower

I have a spare 300mm Momo and was thinking of fitting but I would think its too small and will obstruct the dials too much?

I had exactly the same problem in my mk1, so I took some of the stuffing out of the seat base so that I sit slightly lower, and I purchased a 300mm steering wheel off ebay (not perfect, but functional smile )

I was watching this one incase you're interested. Should be cheap enough smile

Swapping the steering wheel in a Mk2.5 is a bit trickier as it has an airbag.
I got by the seat-height problem by fitting Elise seats biggrin

Did you use elise seat frames or altered the mx5 frames?

Elise frames don't fit. I used the MX5 frames without altering them. I just had to get inventive with the mounting. It's pretty simple though.
