Try the MX-5 breakers on ebay.
Although, and I hate to say it, but probably the cheapest way to do it would be to sell the car and buy one with PAS.
The mid-90s UK MX-5s had such low specs it's surprising that they even came with engines! My dad had a 96 UK 1.8 with no PAS (I think Dennis The Menace has one too).
I know lightness is good, but it wasn't down to that, it was just cost cutting (I believe some of the cars had steel wheels too!)

I know of 2 cars being broken privately and as far as I know both had PAS and both are still available...
