My mum's MX-5 is a '95 (or '96, I can't remember) 1.8i with 80,000 miles on the clock in decent nick.

It's a boggo UK car (i.e. no PAS, ABS, air con or elec windows) and is pretty much standard aside from a stainless steel exhaust which replaced the old one that fell to bits (don't they all?).

With the market the way it is at the moment I can't advise her confidently.

Does £2,000 sound like she'd be taking the mick?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Edited due to woeful spelling.

Hmmm I think condition is the key factor with pricing.
If it's any comparison, my recently bought, late 95(n plate) UK 1.8i with 90k on the clock. Tidy & mostly standard condition, cost £1750

I just paid £2200 for a 1997 1.8i UK car with no toys on 84k. The car is a minter though! biggrin

I would say, assuming it is of average condition, then that is a little on the high side. I think £17-1800 would be a reasonable price.

The MX5 market seems a little depressed relative to the last couple of years for some reason.

Thanks for the help chaps, much appreciated.

It seems to me that somewhere in the region of £1,750 is more appropriate.

I'll let her know smile

Valuation sounds about right (not that I'd have a great deal of experience) at £1750.

As for the exhausts - I thought the standard exhaust is virtually indestructable ! I think my 1990 is still on it's original (although i think the baffles may have taken a walk over the last couple of years, hey-ho!)

Mine is a 1.8 UK base model - no toys - with 106k. It does have 14" alloys fitted, not the steel wheels, and I have a heated glass window and a new hood.

Bought it two weeks ago for £1625 (advert was for £1790) - but it has no history at all. I think if you've got history and MOT and it's clean, no rust, I'd put it up for £1995. A lot of people will have been looking at the sunshine this weekend and getting tempted!
