I've got the bog standard factory fitted clarion radio casette player in my car.

I know it looks and indeed sounds a bit st, but I don't really use it that much. One of the things I also like about my car is that it is totally standard and unmodified, down to the stty radio.

Anyway went out for a drive today and went to turn it on at the volume knob and it doesn't appear to work. The time is still on display at the front so I dont know whats up with it.

Any thoughts of what to check? It went a bit funny a year or so ago, and funnily enough I tapped the centre consol on the side a couple of times then and the radio sparked back up again! No such luck this time..

not an expert , but you may have 2 live feeds to the stereo. that could be why the clock is lighting up,sort of a constant live. you may find that the other live feed might have a blown fuse or a bad connection. hope that helps but really do not know much more than that

Factory stereo in mine sometimes doesn't work until the car has been warmed up for a while, haven't got round to finding out why yet. Seems worst after rain so its probably a bit of water getting in somewhere it shouldn't which dries out when the engine gets hot.

I had a similar problem with mine when I replaced it (went to turn down the volume, touched it and it went dead). On "Dennisthemennaces'" advice I tracked down the problem to a poor earth. I connected a piece of wire from the back of the stereo casing to a piece of the metal framework behind the dash. Works fine now.

'course not! Basically I had a bad earth and my aerial had become live (noticed a spark when I was connecting it) All you do is loosen a screw on the back of the stereo case and attach a piece of wire. Secure the other end to something metal behind the dash. There was a "strut" just behind where the stereo goes. Takes 2 mins.
