Hi there folks, i'm after a rolling shell, basically without engine and box, everything else in there, for a project i'm planning.

Where would be my best bet to find one? Has to be a Mk1.

Everything i see on ebay/classifieds seems to be someones pride and joy and the engines don't ever seem to go bang.

Does this sort of thing ever come up on the owners forums?

Cheers,
Olie

Actually, I think what your looking for, wont exactly exist.

You'll be able to find a car for 'breaking' quite easily.

It will probably have a shagged engine, box, interior, suspension, diff, electrics, interior... etc

Or you could find a car that has a good condtion interior, suspension etc etc. This is also likely to come with a working engine and gearbox though if you think about it.

If your planning an engine swap, you'll probably have to buy a full runner and strip out the engine and box and sell on.

As above for what you want simply buy a car and sell the engine and box.

They do come up occassionally I just sold a Mk2 needing an engine for £1200 but its very rare as most would simply fit an engine to a good car rather than sell as is.

Hairy muff, i was under the impression that if the engines don't go bang nobody would need that and the box.

Dare i ask what i'd be getting back for the engine and box combo? Just so i can price this up feasibly.

Cheers.

Engines do die. Some of these cars are 20 years old now so even fairly bullet-proof cars like these can die if they've had a hard life. Gearboxes tend to be fine though I'm sure someone out there will need a replacement.
