Any mk1s near Gatwick have a small (300mm) steering wheel?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm looking into an MX5 in the near future, but I have a problem in that I'm 6 foot 5! My only experience of sitting in them is a family members' car, and because of my long legs, my knee sits between the wheel and centre console, and wheel and the door - in fact, it stops the door from closing. A problem!
She's had the standard wheel and also a larger wooden one (Nardi is a word that springs to mind?). Does anyone have one that's smaller than OEM, maybe 300mm or less, and would be willing for me to pop over just to see if my legs will ever fit in the car? I'm located near Gatwick half the week, but also in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire the other half of the week.
I'd really appreciate any help - obviously I don't want to buy a wheel without knowing if it will even fit me first!
Thanks in advance.

Hi I'm in WGC and am 6'3" and understand your problem. Our testbed had the standard 370mm Momo and I tried a 270mm racing wheel which was a tad too small, I ended up with a 320 wheel which is not too bad. Out of interest - people who have a smaller steering wheel, I assume you have PAS? Mine only has 'manual' steering and I'm thinking a smaller wheel would make it quite difficult to manoeuvre at slow speed?
I recently test drove a very sweet engined 1.8 no-PAS with a tiny wheel. It was indeed bl**dy hard work parking/reversing & at slow speed, especially roundabouts etc it had a noticeably "yaw" type feeling.Gassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
