Yellow with BRG. I Like!
I notice you have Avon ZV3 tyres, they came on my car, & am not certain of them- for me grip seems a little unpredictable, but it could be my inexperience with a 5. Do you have an opinion on them?
I've never tried them myself but they have a poor rep on MX5s.I notice you have Avon ZV3 tyres, they came on my car, & am not certain of them- for me grip seems a little unpredictable, but it could be my inexperience with a 5. Do you have an opinion on them?
Wasnt keen on the colour, then I saw them next to the car and thought they looked half decent, just remember anything is better than bland!!
Keep up the good work, they spray workmanship looked tidy.
I have those alloys and the Avon Zwateva3s.
Interesting tyre, I don't have much to compare too, as before I had a missmatch of tyres on the car and obviously any setup with 4 of the same tyres is going to be better than that!
here are my findings:
The good:
They are cheap and easy to come by
They don't wear down much(and I drive like a bloody hooligan)
In the dry they are quite predictable up to a predictable point and then the grip can snap a bit or "bounce"
In heavy rain they dont aquaplane too badly (unless you hit big puddles and this is more down to the small footprint of the wheel). On my old tyre setup in heavy rain id struggle with aquaplaning on the m4 at 60, now I could do 90 without issue(if I wanted to!)
Once warm they change and become more progressive to a point they are really quite gripy on smooth tarmac.
The Bad & ugly:
On some grades of tarmac, in slippery conditions (ie just when it has stopped raining and the grease settles) round roundabouts they are bloody useless, they predicably understeer to the point where unless you have a big run off in case of a spin you have to take the roundabout at walking pace!
Until they have warmed up a bit they can be very snappy in the wet, although this and the above point can be typical of all tyres (to an extent).
I'd say they are OK tyres, I drive the car hard where the conditions allow, Their major downfall the grip on certain rough grades of tarmac in the wet. Obvioudly this is just my opinion, my car setup is standard and quite "tired" I have covered about 13,0000 miles on them with a fair amount of tread left.
Tbh the main issue is that there arent many tyres to choose from at this size and there may be better tyres out there, but somtimes you have to take what the tyre fitters are able to get, I didnt have time to source my own.

Thanks for your comments here, very useful & kinda confirm most of my own impressions of this tyre. I agree, once warm, they do seem quite grippy on decent tarmac.- Unfortunately down here in Somerset we only have a couple of hundred yards of the stuff in the whole county! Its the unpredictabily on poor surfaces that resonates most. Perhap I might consider getting a set of 15" in the future, it opens up a much better range, inc my favourites the GY F1 gds3.Interesting tyre, I don't have much to compare too, as before I had a missmatch of tyres on the car and obviously any setup with 4 of the same tyres is going to be better than that!

Not quite...
To me, it has that sort of feeling that it's almost there - perhaps it's the camera, or perhaps just the shade of paint. How close is it to the shade Lotus used to use on their racing cars?
I've just dragged up a photo of an old Lotus single-seater and it looks like the Lotus shade is a little bit lighter and a bit more "golden", and with that it works.
Hmm.
