Hi all,

Just trying to sell the wifes MX5 as she has a company car and had three people not turn up on Sunday despite promising to make an appeareance.

I have also have had a handfull of people saying the mileage is high!

(Its 1991 Eurnos with a genunie 160,000 KMS) so 100,000 miles thats roughly 5.5k per year.

Am I wrong in thinking people are getting the wrong end of the stick when buying a close to 20 year old car?

Would you expect 60k? Or simply clocked imports.

Anyway slight rant over. frown

That IS annoying. Try getting them to come 1st thing if possible; if they see a.n.other car before yours, they may have already struck a deal. I would always give my mobile No. so they can call if delayed/cancelling etc.

I don't know what £s you're advertising it for but if it's more than £2k you may struggle to sell it (IMHO).

I only want £1700 for a pretty decent 1.6. Hence my annoyance.

Guess the rain didnt help.

Not sure if it is, mod if it is, remove this post, and I will send the link across via PM.

I dont think its overpriced, I am in no rush to sell it- just getting slightly annoyed with people not turning up etc.

Some good tips though about asking for morning viewings. Any more tips would be welcome.

Looks a tidy example, I think its about the right sought of money. I would suggest replacing the rear window, I know you have the hardtop as well, but this might be turning buyers off. They might be intereste in the car which is why they are arranging viewings, but then when they think about it, perhaps they are deciding they don't want the hassle of replacing the rear window?? Not everyone has room/space to store a hard top so perhaps a split rear window is a bigger issue than you think?? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying thats all that is preventing someone buying this, but if this niggly little issue was sorted, might give people more confidence and encourage them to actually turn up, particually if they are travelling a long way which is often the case. Incidently, where did you get that steering wheel from/ what is it?

Cheers Felix,

I might consider the rear window, however its not a serious split so might take a photo of it to show potential buyers that is nothing to worry about. Good point raised.

Fingers crossed, worst case is we used it over the summer.

It's an 18 year old car with 100k mileage and selling for near top money. It is tidy and I'm sure it will sell, you just need to be patient. 6 days is hardly a long time and, i'm afraid, there are cheaper cars that will attract more attention.

If you want it gone - exclude the hardtop from the sale and drop the price to £1499. Then you can sell the hardtop in the autumn for £400.

Simples smile

Well I think that car is a brilliant price. New roof £300-400. New wheels and tyres £400?
Paint job on the bit that is chipped ? not much cost really.
Mine is 16 year old and I paid £2,900 and have spent a lot on it as lots of things were missing, but I have a plate worth £1000. So I got a bargain I think.
Nice little car yours I would snap it up if I didn't have mine.

Trade tip -

Always ask people to call before they set off.

If they don't call, they aren't coming.

Ask for their no. if they intend to come - they are more likely to at least cancel, than simply not turn up, if there is a chance you'll call them.

Anyone who calls, let them come straight away - any delay and they move on to another car.

Finally there are simply a lot of idiots about - welcome to the world of used car sales biggrin

Cheers for the advice chaps.

Just fixed the indicators with a fuse relay, result.

Also fitted an original gear knob and looks a million times better.

At this rate the wife might want to keep it!

Hi All,

She sold this weekend frown The wife and I were sad to see her go, but she has gone to a good owner who has plans to do her up and do a bit of track work at the Ring.

It was sold to the first person who actually turned up!

The trick with potential buyers is to say you have someone else coming and you'll phone them if you sell it to save them a trip. Then ask for their mobile number.

Then phone them at 3 in the morning to say, "Hi I'm still waiting for you to come and look at the MX5, I take it you got lost"
