Posted in GG, but there's lot of '5 knowledge in here!
Evening all,
My '96 MX5 has a brake imbalance of 18%.
The tired suspension was replaced with the Gaz Gold set up. I thought that maybe the damper rates or even that the springs rates could have been out, but it's been back to WiM for a check up as it's these guys who fitted it all. I'm now convinced that the suspension set up and geo are good.
I've noticed that on firmer settings the left front locks up first and quite easily. On the softer settings the car feels like it's twisiting under braking.
How can I solve this? Is it related to discs and pads, or is it the braking system?

As you took it to WiM I'd guess that they would have checked the discs & pads to make sure they have plenty of life in them but can you confirm that the pads have plenty of life in them and that they are sweeping the full width of both sides of both discs?
How old are the pads and have they only been used on the road?
If the discs & pads are fine then I'd suspect a faulty calliper. After a run are both discs equally hot?

I've checked the discs and pads. The pads appear to have a fair amount of thickness on them. As for the discs, there is not much of a 'lip' at the top so I assume that the discs are fine also.
The brakes have not been touched by me yet, so their history is unknown. Seeing as the costs are not that high on these cars, I may just change disc/pads all round and see what sort of a difference this makes.
The car is used for weekends / track days. I'm reading that the standard Mazda items are up to the job? Or would you reccommend something more specialist?
