How about new leather covers for the old ones? I got my new covers for my old Eunos seats in leather with colour coded panel for ~£220. Admittedly they were a bit of a time consuming faff to fit but I feel worth it (The guy who made them would have fitted them for £70 but he was too far away to make shipping the seats themselves to him and back practical)
Personally I'd say that the only thing against Mk2.5 seats is that they are too hight if you are above average height. They are more comfortable than Mk1/2 seats and look much nicer (IMO).
I replaced mine with Elise seats which are easy to fit with a bit of lateral thinking. They do work better on track and give a much lower seating position but aren't as comfortable as '5 seats. I have S2 seats which have a taller & narrower headrest which are fine with harnesses (which I haven't fitted yet).

I guess I'm after something a bit more supportive than the early mk1 cloth seats, not sure an elise or bucket is a good idea, given that it's a road-only car, and I occasionally do long hoonage trips in it
I have the VX220 seats in mine (same as the Lotus but a different design if that makes sense) and can cope with driving to Le Mans with just one or two fuel stops ,so comfort is not that bad in them MX-5 Lazza said:
If you come along to the next Cobham Commoners (Planet MX5) meet you can take a look at my S2 Elise seats. There will also be Mk1s, Mk2s and Mk2.5s there so you can compare them all

I might just have to do that!

I have red eunos seats and the drivers is worse than the passenger but I would like to protect them from further damage. Where did you get your seat covers from?maz8062 said:

Did you go from S2 seats to S1 seats? I went the other way![pic posted]

S1 Seats:
Wrong colour for the car...
S2 Seats:
Much better
I've improved the mounting since then too to make the seat more upright which is more comfortable and gives better control.
The S2 seats are more comfortable, a little more upright, a bit narrower in the base (I moved around a bit on hard cornering on S1 seats but not S2 seats) and the top of the headrest is a few inches higher (S1 seats are a bit too low for me whereas the S2 seats are just right - I'm 6' 1"). Also, the S2 seats have adjustable lumbar on both seats whereas the S1 seats only have it on the drivers side though the adjustment moved from the inside side to the door side on the S2 which is more awkward to get to.

Do the Elise seats offer much supportiveness over the normal MX5 ones?
Yes. They aren't as supportive as full race bucket seats but they are a good compromise and as a bonus are very light.Gassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
