Going to replace the girlfriend's 106 with an MX5. I used to have a Mk I Eunos but don't know anything about Mk IIs really. Anything specific to look for when buying?

Not sure if it'll be a UK car or a Eunos yet. Do all Mk II Eunoses have AC and electric windows like the Mk I?

Cheers.

UK Mk2s are much more plentiful than the imported version.

Go for a 1.8iS which will have a LSD and electric windows etc. All the basic problems with 5s still exist though.

There are numerous threads on here about such problems / issues / things to look for so a quick search should throw them up.

I'm going to get all anal & pedantic now...
There is no Mk2 Eunos.
Eunos was a name Mazda gave to a family of Jap market cars, a bit like Lexis for Toyota but lower budget and Jdm only. The JDM MX5 Mk1 is known as Eunos Roadster. By the time the Mk2 was launched this name had been dropped so the latest Mk1s and the Mk2 onwards are simply Mazda Roadsters.

So anyway, back to the original question. The Mk2 is pretty much the same car as the Mk1. Mechanically you can think of it as a Mk1 with fixed headlights so your knowledge of Mk1s is applicable to Mk2.

Fair enough, I have been out of the MX5 scene since mine was written off about 6 years ago.

Anyway, thanks, if they're pretty much the same then I shall be fully armed as a purchaser smile 1.8iS sounds a good bet, depending on insurance quotes for a 29 year old.

Cheers all.
