My car runs pretty well in general, however when I start it from cold it starts but idles roughly, I need to rev it a few times before it will idle normally. This is one problem, when its warm it runs well, but now and again when coming up to a junction it will just cut out! I can drive the car for an hour, and it might only do it once, but it just doesn't seem right?? Sometimes when I start it from cold it can sound quite 'rough'. The strange thing is, theres no jerking or hesitation issues??

It's recently had an oil change with a forte engine flush, and I've recently replaced the spark plugs and leads. I can work out if its a fuel/intake related problem, or an electrical issue, coil pack etc?

Don't know if anyone else has had similar symptons, or can identify the fault. Its frustrating because the car runs fine 90% of the time, but would like to sort this niggling little fault out.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!

Cheers

Your 'Electronically controlled idle' and your 'mechanically controlled idle' are out of balance.

You need to reset the manual idle (just done this on mine). Guides on Miata.net/garage

Takes 5 minutes, and is free. Quite possibly the answer.

I've got the same problem at the moment. Going to take the ICV off at some point and give it a good clean.

Also might be worth checking the condition of your HT leads.

My Mk1 suffered from idle droop after disconnecting the battery; thankfully a quick and easy one to fix, if this is indeed your problem..

Mine used to do exactly the same, was running really well and then would just cut out when braking for a junction. It stopped though after i got my mx5parts stainless exhaust, the idle revs went up slightly and it hasnt cut out since. I also tried some red-ex this seemed to help as well.
