Presumably have to remove the door insert/door handle?

Any tips welcome as Haynes manual does not really help!

Do I assume you mean how do you take the old one off ?

Piece of Cake (ish), there is a cap on the stem where it is connected to the door.
Carefully prise it off.
Two large Screws and off it pops. (I guess if they are electric jobs it is more complex, but I don't have them)
They are non-electric.

Is it that simple? Is putting a new one on simply the reverse?

When I spoke to MX5Parts they seemed to think I would have to attach it from the inside i.e. take the door inserts out.

No need to take door card off = just pry-off plastic cover at base of mirror and two screws to undo, as per above.

Yes, no need to remove door card. Very prone to rusting so overnight soak with WD40 or plusgas to make removal easier. A little copa-slip grease on threads when refitting.

Clip cap off using a or tape to protect paintwork and use a thin flat blade screwdriver to unclip cover. Soak screws in plus gas before unscrewing. I then washed and cleaned the area and then replaced using new screws and covered them with grease to protect against water.
