I believe the Ford Duratec engine family were based Mazda engines...
However... reading Miata.net it seems there are too many problems with trying to fit the Duratec V6 engines (2.3, 2.5, 3.0) into an MX-5. A few have had a good look into it but have given up as a hopeless cause and switched to the Mazda KL engines series instead.

I think the more suitable might be a KL-ZE V6 which is a pure Mazda design and a narrow angle V6 to boot (more space on the side).
I did see a website with a fellow doing this exact conversion. I'll have a hunt around for you.

from what i've read (on the 'net so it must be true lol) the v6 had porsche input, the alloy blocked zetec se (also called sigma, also used in caterhams) had yamaha design and the four cylinder duratec (i4- not to be confused with the previous 2.0 and 2.3 four cylinder ford range also called i4!!!) is indeed a mazda. i think this is the one in the mk3 mx5
phew!!!
phew!!!
thanks lazza I did look I have picked up a few helpfull tips about how to mount the engine
if the v6 has the same belhouseing patten as a 2 liter duratec a behouseing from cat would work just need to find out what fits what and get a plate made up / make a plate up

i wondered if it would fit a ford mt75, as it fits the mtX75 which i've heard is a transverse version of the mt?
I as you state the mtx 75 is a version of the mt but they are from diffent eres i have seen only clasic (used in the looses terms )ford engines on mt's eg yb ,essex V6 and the old I4 (89>) but never seen a duratec on a mt before only one way to find out is to try it I will give it a go and get back to you on that dan
