NC3.5 Clutch foot rest removal?

Sat in one of the facelifted MX-5s in Mazda Watford today and the pedal area felt tight. I noticed when pressing the clutch that the left part of my foot hit the clutch foot rest. Is this easy to remove to give a bit more foot room?

I did like the facelifted car actually, interior felt a bit more up-market and the 'mouth' at the front doesn't seem as big in real life and fits the front numberplate well - I always thought the front plate on NC3s looked like an afterthought.
