I suspect you won't find many MX5 owners fitting subs.

That's just going to be a waste, unless getting the boot panels to throb is your objective. alas there is no air connection between the MX5 boot and interior to allow the sound to pass into the cabin. I guess it may be possible to cut some holes into the structural shelf behind the seats, but it feels very unsatisfactory in terms of compromising the vehicle strength/stiffnes and still won't repreasent the sort of sound quality you're looking for.

I think someone on here has fitted 6 X 9's or similar into a shelf somewhere here, they may have some findings to share. Personally I'm resigned to

MX5's are rubbish for firring audio into
Making the best of the factory (door and, if JDM, headrest speaker) locations

Although for me I've got four persished headrest speakers and a door speaker that I think ingested some water at some point... instead I have tuned my ears to teh exhaust, wind noise and, er, a sound quality challenged system...

In fact there are a couple of very large passageways from the boot to the cabin - have a look in the boot - on each side there are gaps past the fuel tank.
However, as the '5 is a soft-top little of the bass will be noticed in the cabin and you'd be better off with speakers in the cabin area.

You could try fitting a small sub under the passenger seat if you are desperate.

Not under the stock MX5 seats - thereis barely space for a magazine under there!

Alpine and others do some slim, all-in-one type active subs that would fit behind the seats.

Theres a discontiued model, SWD 1100 or soemthing, thats nice and small and gives a little extra kick. Keep meaning to get one for mine. not heavy either.

I've got 3x subs under my parcel shelf (for want of a better word) carpet. This was installed before I got mine, not my doing, but people are right, it's a bit of a waste anyway. In such a small car the bass wavelength is too long to give great sound.

If you put that in your boot where the hell would you put your cigarettes?
