Hey

I am running the standard 14" alloys, and need some new rubber for the car and wondered what people thought best??

I defo don't want a set of "ditch finders"!!!

Cheers

Avoid the Pirelli P6000's then!

I really struggle with them - hopefully they'll need changing at the end of the year and I can get some decent rubber.

Those or GY Eagle F1s seem to be most people's favourites. Personally I've never used a better tyre than the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. Utterly brilliant tyre in every conceivable way. You pay a premium for them though, and I don't think they're available in that size.

I used the Michelins. Didn't rate them that much and didn't like the grip in the wet. My Goodyears were MILES better in the wet and seemed to last longer.

I run Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on 15" rims for the summer and a set of Goodyear Hydragrips (on 14") for the winter.

The F1s give great all-round performance but do tramline a bit on the 15" wheels. The Hydragrips are narrower and great for shifting standing water and in slippery conditions.

HTH.

The Moose- Do I know you??

Anyway back on topic- I use Goodyear Eagle F1s on my 5 at the moment (GSD2s for 14") they were actually cheaper than the toyos in 14" size. very grippy but they seem slightly too soft for my liking with too much flex. i am now running at higher pressure 29psi much better but still not as much feel as the Bridgestone RE720s I have just come off (sadly no longer available)

choose well as poor tyre choice is really highlighted on the MX5. I should know I also had the Pirelli P6000s originally.

Hello mate

Quite possibly - who are you?!?! (PM me if you like!!)

By the sounds of things, the Goodyear Eagle F1s look like its the best way to go so I will get the Eagle F1s in 185/60/14 tomorrow.

Cheers

I've tried the PE2s too and I didn't like them either. Not as good as F1 GSD2 or 3, T1-R or even the old Bridgestone SO2. Goodyear Hydragrip are probably as good on dry roads and way better in wet (I have them on my Focus and have been really impressed).

Yes my name is real smile

Sorry I think I may have got confused. Having seen your post about Slough based service centres I don't think I do know you (but you never know)

There is a guy based in Bristol who I occasionally compete against in sim racing who also goes by the name of "The Moose" on forums.

Sorry for the confusion
