Now firstly, I am not very technically minded and struggle to change a bulb let alone anything else. However, I do know quite a few techie types who can fit engines etc. Has anyone made up their own turbo kit for their MX5? I imagine there are hundreds of used turbo diesel turbo's kicking around, would these be suitable and what other bits would you need? Is this not really a feasible idea, and if not, why?

That's a question to be asked on Nutz. If anyone has done it they will be on there.

Entirely possible to knock up your own turbo kit, less so though using a dieselt turbo, often the materials of construction suit lower exhaust temperatures (as found on efficient diesels), the sizing of the compressor/turbine wheels and the more lax oil sealing on a diesel turbo often make them less suitable for a petrol refit,

Hope this helps

Francis.

To be honest my car is such a shed it would be money down the drain throwing £1500+ at it, I've got mates who have scrapyards and people I know who used to be quite handy at building engines and stuff. Just wondered if it was worth trying to track down a few bits and pieces and seeing if my engine building wizard can get me a bit of FI power!

Greddy kits start around £750 its hard to beat that unless you can do the work yourself.

Firstly you would need to buy a turbo manifold which would cost £250ish new - DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THE EBAY VERSIONS they won't last a month.

But yes many people have built there own kits with varying degrees of success best site is Miataturbo.net
