.....I just spent over £800 on mx5parts. Thats with me resisting the exhaust...(I'm sure mine will fall off tomorrow now)

bounce

I want my shiney things NOW. furious . I can't wait until tomorrow. I need them to arrive so I can get to the garage to arrange for the car to be booked in. bounce

Memo: Just adding things to the basket in mx5parts when you see them over a few weeks and eventually clicking on buy can be harmfull to your wallet.

Well I ummed and Ahhed about what to do with my saggy springs/shocks. Eventually the Mrs said something like "Please for the love of god just buy something. Anything. Just stop telling me about it."

So we have the Absolutley Shocks Gaz option on that front.

We also have a 3 piece clutch kit, and a new electric arial as it's on special offer reduced price. (Still over £100 though. I previously tried a new mast. Thats not the problem).

Then bits and bobs. Real reason for replacing the clutch is to get to the oil leak on the back of the engine. So while in there lets do it all.

scratchchin How likely is it that the suspention bolts etc will be rusted solid after 12 years and >100k miles....

Good spending spree!

I've gone for the Gaz Golds as well, Tony at WiM should be fitting them at the end of the month - can't wait!

I dont believe the GAZ option from mx5parts are the Golds. Obviously I'll be posting photos when they arrive so comparisons can be made. I chose them for the simple reason I could order them without using the phone..... What a fantastic reason I'm you'll all agree.... scratchchinhehe

Unlikely - I have it on good authority that the original exhausts last forever. Shame since it makes justifying a new exhaust that bit harder!

This is a real issue I agree. I'm amazed that an exhaust can last over a decade and 100k miles. It did have a warning 2 mot's ago, although not on the latest one.... scratchchin Are they self healing?

A good enough reason in my book!

And I like your tactic with the missus - it was the same as mine! I ended up in a situation with her yelling
shout "For the love of God - I have no idea what the difference is between a P5 and a Gaz Gold, but just bloody well get on with making a decision and sorting something out with that car!"
"Oh, well, err, if you insist..."
"I do insist. Make the call. Now. Whilst I'm watching"

Excellent! hehe
Mind you, cost me a mini-break as well...

This modifying bug seems to have bitten quite hard, so money well spent I say!

By the way, are you fitting it yourself?
Due to a lack of time and knowledge, this job really would be jumping in at the deep end for me so I'm heading up to WiM. The car needs a full geo check anyway.

Definately not doing the clutch myself! The Gaz stuff I'm tempted to have a bash at. But if I look at the car and see seized bolts etc. I'll pass the pleasure of those to the garage.

Bet you can't wait to get all your kit through. Matt, how much did you pay for the GGP's? Also how long before ordering until you had them in your hands?

Cheers.

Have a crack at the suspension, it's really not that hard, I did all 4 corners in an afternoon with a mate helping, using a procedure (I can't find it now but someone will know!) that avoids breaking the ball joints (although this is only an issue if it is a like-for-like swap - if you're changing the ride height then it will need setting up again anyway).

Actually I dont want to change the ride height. A slab of beer in the boot and full tank of fuel currently drops the car enough to hit the exhaust on local speed bumps. So my plan is to maintain the current ride height for the road use. See how we get on and then start playing. With the intention of more interesting playing at a trackday...

In which case I would thorougly recommend having the suspension set up by someone that knows what they are doing. I had mine done by a motorsport engineer and the "before" and "after" comparison was frankly epic. £100 very well spent IMHO.

Yeah I had similar, ordered an exhaust at about 3pm and expected it to take a few days to arrive, then answered the door in my pants to the courier at about 7:30 the following morning. Poor bd.

I had mine in just before Christmas getting the KYB AGX gas adjustable shocks put in. The job took 2.5 full days because of the rust, every single bolt needed at least the heat gun :-( Well worth it though!

Well it's home with lots new bits on it. Definately need to get it around to a local 4 wheel laser alignment place before I'm confident.

Over 20 hours labour I think Frank said, charged for 12. Given pretty much everything but the engine came off the under side of the car.

My biggest problem is that these are not ideal road testing environments!
