Mine has Mobil 1 Fully Synth (0w40) since it's last service in May '08

Mobil 1 0w-40 in mine. But if it's a top up to a standard semi-synth oil change then there's little benefit to using fully synth. Just look for a big brand semi-synth.

Yeah i've no idea whats in there at the moment so its only a top up for the time being.

Been very impressed with Redline. Using 10w-40 in my 100k+ mile 1600 and the engine very smooth and quiet still.

All commonly available oils can be mixed apart from real full synthetics such as Royal Purple so if it's just for a top up I'd buy a litre of something cheap and replace with a full synthetic such as Mobil 1 at the next oil-change.

even they can be mixed with mineral if needs must (so if you used royal purple full synth and were low, and the garage only had mineral 20W-50, you could top up with that. you'd want to drain it out pretty soon - but only cos it's rubbish, not cos it's incompatible). there's no big difference between something like silkolene pro s and royal purple
