mx5 speaker dimensions...
Discussion
...quick intro. Both my headrest speakers are blown to pieces, would like to replace them, anyone know any sizes for them and any recommendations? Are they easy to fit? My door speakers are knackered too, one is now squealing regardless of volume (even does it on mute!) or whether the balance is set to that side etc so they need to go too. Again, any idea's of dimensions and/or speaker recommendations? Any suggestions gratefully recieved.....
ETA- sorry, its a Mk1 Eunos....

Hi
I bought these speakers from MX5Parts, they are larger than the standard ones, and like the standards they only play the treble, but they do the job perfectly. http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...
They come with a fitting kit, and basically you'll need to open the headrest, remove the old ones, then cut the foam in the headrest slightly to fit the new ones, it too about 10 minutes to fit, easy peasy.
For the door speakers they have these: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...
personally i just went down to Maplin and bought some no-name brand ones for about £10, which are just as good. only problem with the ones i got is i had to cut the speaker covers off the doors to fit them, leaving the speakers exposed. i imagine these would fit alot better.
Hope that helps.

Ollie,
A few years ago, some guy on t'internet wrote a brilliant article about replacing the headrest speakers. I'll see if I can find it via Google.
Mine work fine - but I quite fancy upgrading them

I quite fancy getting some decent sound quality going on in it, some half decent speakers would be a worthwhile investment me-thinks....A few years ago, some guy on t'internet wrote a brilliant article about replacing the headrest speakers. I'll see if I can find it via Google.

It's a shame that guys page is gone - he reviewed all the different types of speakers that would fit (and some that could with a little bit of work). He ended up going for a slightly bigger speaker, cutting the edges off the speakers and cutting out some of the headrest.
It really was a brilliant article - shame it's gone
IIRC the speakers he went for were Sony ones, which required a minor bit of work to fit.
