Service intervals are 9000 miles and cam-belt change is at 54k miles/6 = years.

It shouldn't usually drink oil but it's not uncommon for it to suddenly drink a bit with no warning and no apparent reason. As long as it doesn't do this all the time it should be fine. Mine almost never needs topping up despite the abuse I give it but very occasionally it needs half a litre to top it up.

Re: Oil Consumption.

Mine MK1 will use 1 Liter of Oil between services. It always has and I've just accepted it. Others dont. But I wouldn't worry if you find it does use a little bit.

As Lazza said they can sometimes use a bit and then it'll not drop again for ages. Most odd.

On an aside, my car is booked in for it's 6 year service, but as I've only done 38k miles I was advised that it wouldn't need the belt changed until it had reached 54k. Anyone else heard of this?

As a generral thing I have heard of belts not being changed on age but only miles. (54000 being correct for miles). It makes me uncomfortable normally as the cost vs risk factor makes me want to change it on most cars. But if the engine on the 2.5 is still non-interferance you could just leave it as the risk of mechanical damage is removed.

If you download the actual Mazda service checklist that I posted up you can see that they suggest you only replace it on miles and not age. And yes, the Mk2 also has a non-interference engine.
