Hi all,
I had a new cloth hood fitted recently (Nov) at the esteemed Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea. However, over the last few weeks I've noticed white marks have appeared inside the hood (directly above driver and passenger and at the rear, in the direction of the rear arches, also inside). They look kind of like sweat-marks if that makes sense! I'me sure it must be due to the salt on the roads at the moment; I just didn't expect to see marks inside! Should I have treated the hood before winter? Also, what's the best way to remove the marks and prevent it happening again?
Cheers,
Craig.

Does it wipe off? It's probably mould from moisture

Not easily - it's not mould-looking though and there is no smell.

Mould is the usual cause, especially on fabric hoods. The same happens to vinyl but it takes longer.
You should be able to clean it off with mildly soapy warm water.
Use Renovo (from MX5 Parts) to clean, condition and seal the hood, should stop this happening again. As you hood is new you probably only need the cleaner (gets rid of bird poo, tree sap, pollutants etc.) and sealant (ultra proofer).

May I ask how much a new cloth hood set you back? I'm hoping to get a new hood from Jack Smith this year. I've heard the Mohair option is about £350 and was hoping the vinyl or cloth option would be a fair bit cheaper. I could just call them I suppose!

Hi Phil,

They (JS) didn't really make a distinction between cloth and mohair when I took mine there. I paid £260, which included taking the heated glass window from the old one and putting into the new hood. Excellent job.

Craig.

Cheers for this. £260 seems very reasonable. I think I'll get mine done soon and new side seals whilst I'm at it. I guess I'd probably need a new rain rail too?
