I'm interested in picking up a Mk2 (what's a Mk2.5???) and I've seen a 54-plate 1.8 Sport with AC and around £14k miles, FSH. Its up at £7500 (approved used with 12 month warranty) which seems a bit steep when the first Mk3's are coming down to that price. Obviously, the price is a starting point for negotiations but what do folk think I should be paying?
Alternatively, would I be better with a cheaper non-Sport model?
Cheers

Bear in mind im no expert....
The mx-5 your looking at is the mk2.5 any mx-5 as will any made after 2001 (Not sure exact when in '01 mind).
The changes were slightly diferent styling, different dashand seats, stiffer chassis and VVT on the 1.8 I believe.
The pricve you ahve mentioned does sound high I wouldn't expect to be paying anymore than £7k for a perfect example with hardtop when you consider its winter and most people ar ecutting down on such 'lux' items.
But if its exactly what your after then maybe its the right price for you?
Hope that helped - im in a similar position!!

Digsy,
I would hold out for the Sport if you can. You get 6 gears over the standard car's 5, bigger brakes, LSD, spotlights etc etc.
It IS low mileage but I still wouldn't pay over £7K for it so haggle as best you can.
The Mk2.5 was offered from 2001 onwards until the Mk3 came out.
Over the original Mk2 it had a slightly sharper nose cone, different lights front and rear, bigger more plump heated seats, different dials and SV-T engine (VVC basically) and a few other bits (most had extra bracing underneath).
