Hi all
New to PH so forgive me if this all goes terribly wrong!
Having taken early retirement and having a lifelong interest in classic cars since a youngster I decided I would like something to keep the old grey matter ticking over. An MX5 MK1 1.6 1991 filled the bill nicely and over the past two years I've been restoring and bringing it back to its original spec. I must say I didn't know what I've been missing, talk about a little pocket rocket. I hope to have it finished for next summer while I've still got hair to blow in the wind. Will post some pics when I've got the hang of this web site. Think I need some help here!

Phil,

Welcome to the rabble wavey

You should find us a useful resource for you.

Here's a guide on how to post some pics - pretty straightforward - but if you get stuck - you only need to shout thumbup

Hi there.smile
A Happy New Year to your all. Now looking forward to the Spring with the top off. Thanks for the info on uploading pics, so here goes . . . Mk1 1991 H, After 2 years of restoration and a fair wedge!
Over the winter I must sort out those slooooow windows before they give up the ghost altogether, looks as though it could be fiddly old job as they may have to come right out to make a proper job of it. Any tips.

For the slow windows try some silicone spray on the runners, worked a treat on mine.

Car looks great!

As for the windows, I dont think ANY have particularly snappy windows, but mine improved no end by dribbling silicon lube down all the seals and all up the runners.

Where-abouts in Lincolnshire are you? Are you a Member on Nutz? I'm organising a run out on the 25th that shouldn't be too far for you to get to? Alternatively might do another one soon further east starting near Goole, should be a good giggle.

Hi Simon

Thanks for the tip on the windows but already tried that one. I think it may be a motor or cable problem. Car now of road for winter until April so will have them sorted by then. Have spent too much time and readies on the underside since I started the restoration so salt is a real no no!

Yorkshireman by birth but have been living down sarth for more years than I can remember, still go back home for the scenery though.

Located south of the Humber, in Wainfleet, not far from Skegness. There seems a lack of MX5er's in this neck of the woods, do you happend to know different, as it would be great to meet up with them and get something going in this area.

Try cleaning the contacts on the window switches. Unlike most cars, Mk1 MX5s run all the power for the windows through the switches so if the contacts get dirty it can make them slow. Probably not your problem but it's easy to do so worth a try.

Hi there

Anyone know much about mini-disc players?

My 5 (H1991 Mk1 1.6) had a radio/mini-disc player already fitted when purchased 3 years ago. Were they fitted as standard on a car of that year? Considering replacing it as I'm having problems finding pre-recorded mini-discs, don't seem to be available anymore. A shame really as the few discs that came with the player reproduce fine. Trying to keep the car as original as possible.

I don't think MiniDisc was ever really a standard fitment in any cars (although BMW did do it for a while).

I can't remember the last time I saw a blank MiniDisk for sale, let alone a pre-recorded one.

I'd suggest looking at replacing it with a CD headunit with MP3 capabilities.
