painting the rocker cover

What is the best way to paint the rocker cover after removal?
What paint have you used?
Etc primer required?

Red car, want red rocker cover.

How easy is it to romove the cover for the belts?

The best thing to do is get yourself a spare one and do that up, then swap them over. If you have a Mk1 then you'll have no problem finding one on ebay.

When you put the cover back on your just need to make sure that you torque up the bolts to the correct setting.

and in the correct sequence with some silicon sealent in the corners or it'll leak.

Nice cover, had not thought about crinkle finish, this is the way to go.
