Mk3 passenger legroom

Was a passenger in my Mk3 MX5 the other day and noticed that the leg room in the passenger seat was alot less than the drivers side. Was just wondering what the reason for this difference is? Is there something in the engine bay that is in the way meaning that it cant be the same as the drivers side#?

It's the same on Mk1/2/2.5. On those the ecu is behind a plate in the passenger foot well. Might be the same on a Mk3.
