Looking for a MX5 1.6 in Silver
Discussion
I'am looking for a MX5 1.6 97 onwards style pref in Silver, in the midlands
area, Pref witin 50 miles of Birmingham. Would appreciate any ideas of where to look apart from PH & Autotrader as don't seem to be having much luck.
Just looked at one today with rust blisters on o/s/r wheel arch and blistering under o/s/r sill. Is this a common problem?
Thanks George email georgeo a supanet.com ph 0 7 8 3 1 4 9 9 7 9 0

Do you mean 98 onwards i.e. Mk2 115bhp 1.6?
A 97 1.6 would be a Mk1 with the 88bhp engine.
Yes sorry Mk 2 A 97 1.6 would be a Mk1 with the 88bhp engine.

Budget, well, I never seen so much variation in the price of all Cars.
I reckon something between £2000 and £3000 depending on mileage and condition. I just want the best value for money, as prices seem to be in freefall at the moment?
You were told wrong.
Mk1 1.6 89-93 114bhp
Mk1 1.8 93-98 130bhp
Mk1 1.6 94-98 88bhp
Mk2 1.6 98-01 115bhp
Mk2 1.8 98-01 138bhp
Mk2 1.6 01-05 120bhp (I think, could be wrong)
Mk2 1.8 01-05 146bhp
(Mk2 from 01 generally known as Mk2.5)
1.6 is a more freely reving unit and feel good when thrashing it but in the real world (and on paper) the 1.8 is quicker, even compared to the early Mk1 1.6 which can be as much as 100Kg lighter.

If you are old enough for the insurance to be sensible the 1.8 is definately the better bet.
And if you can add £500 to your budget, I have something that may interest you.
A facelift Mk 2.5 1800 in silver in very good condition with service history, just serviced, recent roof and a 3 month warranty. (I'm in Solihull)
I haven't advertised it yet but will in the next few days.
PM me if interested.
