Looking after the hood

Hi Folks

have a boggo 1.8 '03 model with a cloth (canvas?) hood
which lives outside. Any recommendations for ensuring it remains in good condition, e.g. does it need re-waterproofing?

Have seen generic care kits in Halfrauds for cleaning / resotirng, any experience of how good these are or better alternatives
