Ignition barrel replacment - or whole new lockset?
Discussion
Im going to collect another mx5 tommorow (bought one a few weeks ago for my girlfriend) and this one has been stolen recovered but doesnt have the keys. I think the ignition barrel has been tampered with but i wont know till i pick it up.
Can i get a new key cut from the ignition lock barrel or do i have to get all the car locks barrels changed to fit a new key?
I'll have proof of purchase to show any locksmith or dealership before they do any work.
Hopefully someone can help!

I cant contact the previous owner yet untill i have the v5 document and the car needs a vic test (cat C recorded) which is why im looking for other options into getting the car started.
At least it sounds like i dont need to remove a immobiliser as well as getting the locks done.
Anyone know of a way into the boot without breaking the lock or damaging anything???
Got it back home now and its got a strut brace on the front and a polished camcover. Also has 15' tsw alloys of some description in reasonable condition. hood has a rip in it above the drivers head and a dent on the drivers front wing.
Ah well never mind ive got a hardtop also in red that ive got my eye on at the moment so if i get that as well that should cheer me up
will get some pics up soon.

Some have an aftermarket release in the centre cubby box.
Otherwise you can remove the No. plate and drill a hole to manipulate the lock (look in another one first)
Presume it a Jap car and no nos on the lock barrels ? (used to on some cars)
Also if you remove a door lock some locksmiths will make a key to fit.

Bloody hell!!!
I wish id read this earlier, id attempted to break in through the boot lock and after around an hour of hammering knocked the lock through the hole.
The only thing was i still couldnt get in! So i ended up going in through the drivers side tailight. With the boot open (found 70p and 2 new wiper blades) i could get the battery charged up.
Tried turning what is left of the ignition barrel and lights come on but still doesnt start - theres some type of immobiliser preventing it starting. Getting pretty fed up now so im going to leave it for a couple of days when ive got a bit more time to perhaps take it somewhere to have the immobiliser removed.
Here's at pic of it for the time being.
