I'm starting to think me and mazdas are cursed.

After dropping my own mk1 eunos off for an engine change, me and a friend were on our way home in his mk3, and were at a stop on a main road waiting for someone to turn off. Unfortunately the driver coming up behind was clearly on a different planet and ran into the back of us. Pictures to follow shortly...

Here we are, not a welcome sight...

GRRR!

Eeek - that's always nasty. A couple of years ago my missus was sitting in traffic in her Megane Coupe when a stupid blonde in a Metro drove into the back of her. She didn't even attempt to slow down so was doing about 40mph - hard enough for the Megane to be pushed into the back of the car in front knocking it's rear bumper off. What made it worse is that she could see this stupid tart driving towards her, could see it wasn't braking so knew it was going to hit her. The blonde said she didn't see the cars in front because the sun was so low it was blinding her rolleyesconfusedfurious

A couple of months later someone drove into the back of my car when I was waiting to cross a busy road. She was watching the traffic instead of me and assumed I had gone when there was a small gap. I hadn't because there were cars coming the other way. That only resulted in minor damage to the rear bumper (which was replaced on insurance).

I hope your accident was more like mine that my missus's (is that even a word?).

Ouch! Not a nice sight at all! Someone went into the back of my 306 once, I was sat stationary at a level crossing, with the barriers down, big flashing red lights, and all 3 of my brake lights illuminated, but the dosey tt still failed to see me!! I immediately rang the police and made sure he was breathelised, honestly some people really shouldn't have a driving license!! Hope everyone was unhurt?

It was a bit of both really. Stupid woman (not blonde though...) must have come flying down the hill where we were helplessly sat in traffic, all we heard was a screech of tires and thought, scensoredt thats coming for us. And sure enough we took a whack to the back left. Wet road didnt help either. Fortunately we had a bit of distance between us and the car infront, and we had just tapped their rear bumper, tiny dint which they didnt mind about. Although the front of the '5 managed to sustain a crack so that'll have to be replaced as well.

The woman (once she'd stopped crying) said her foot slipped off the brake rolleyes and she tried avoiding us. Which she nearly did but the kerb got in her way. And im not entirely sure how long her foot must have been on the brake the speed she was going!

There's a few thousand quid of damage though. Left the house with 2 mazdas, came home with 0. Not a good day. Will be having a few beers wobble tonight...

Yeah all details passed over, my mates mazda dealer kindly offer mazda after care or something, so free tow truck (car to go to mazda bodyshop on monday to be assessed) and also offer to sort out all the insurance, so will pass all the details to them and hopefully everything will be in order.

No injuries as such (not sure why her airbag didnt go off though! - any particular speed they should explode...?). I have a bit of whiplash, starting to get a stiff neck and back now (doctors or A+E is calling tomorrow or monday) but other than that everyones fine cheers.

Feel for ya fella, I had that happen in my beaut of an RX-7 two years ago, Escort RS-turbo failed to see me stopped in traffic and rammed me so hard it hit me into the Clio in front. Both the Escort and the Clio looked write-offs, but for some reason the RX-7 was in pretty fine fettle! Body shop managed to repair the original bumpers in fact. So the lesson of this tale is... If you're going to have a fender bender, buy a rotary! ;-P

I not driven it but my mate took me for a drive in it. Its a pocket rocket in a straight line, 7.1 seconds to 60 apparently (i can believe that, it certainly doesnt hang around) but cornering at any speed is a no no, steering wheel tends to shake and you veer off into places you dont want to be. Very nice car but wouldnt have one. Very gimmicky inside too, depends what you like i suppose.

My mate has one and the steering, grip & handling is fantastic! The ride is quite stiff but I'm used to that wink
As that one is a courtesy car it's probably been abused so I wouldn't use it to base an opinion of those cars from.

Its only done 3,500 miles!!! but to be fair i'd heard good things about them, its probably the way HE's driving it laugh

Still no word about his own car, hopefully he'll hear something before the weekend.

The Cooper S is pretty tidy. The turn in is excellent as is the power / weight ratio...

The downside is the appalling ride - sports suspension, 16" wheels and runflats conspire to making minor roads a bit of a hell.

I often can't push, as it's hard to know what the car is doing with so many impacts coming in from every rut in the road - it's hard to filter out what feedback's important. You can't see the wood for the trees.

It also tramlines like a dog after a scent - catching divets and diving for the hedge. Again a product of the big wheels / hard tyres.

I'm quite sure it would be faster point-to-point with more forgiving wheels / tyres. I also think this is probably what philmar was experiencing.

I'd also say that my '03 Ford KA was a more involving drive... Though it needed more whack at the top of the rev range (torque drops right off at about 4500rpm, while you slowly move up to 'max power' 5500 - it seemed fastest to change up at about 4750). It had loads of steering feel and the car would gently understeer, with a quick lift-off to tighten your line. It was nice and organic, and felt great linking turn to turn. I'd love to try a SportKA.

I tried a friend's old Cooper S (supercharged one), and I got into it with a lot of prejudice, but within a couple fo miles I had the traction light flashing through some 'chicanery' (staggered T junctions) and the usability/grip was really very good, it seemed to perhaps oversteer in a controlled way.

Another car sensitive to alignment perhaps?
