I'm on the verge of getting my first MX-5. Got an insurance quote on a 1990 1.6 Eunos, standard. I'm 26 with 6 years NCB and a clean driving record/history. The best quote I've had so far is £287 TPF&T through autotrader insurance surprisingly, which I was quite pleased with. Qusetion is, is this a 'reasonable quote' or should/could I get this down much further? Don't know what others are paying so would be interested in some feedback....

Have you tried Adrian Flux & A-Plan? AON might be good if you are an OC member but it seems to be hit & miss, probably based on where you live whether you get a good quote from them.
Thanks for the response Lazza, haven't tried Adrian Flux yet, but had a bad experience with them in the past, so I'm not too keen to go back there! I know theres a lot of factors regarding insurance but on the face of it, does it seem reasonable...?Just to throw something into the mix, I currently have a Citroen Xania 1.9 TD (Yes I know, but it does the job!)insured with Churchill. I obviously use my NCB on this car. I know you can't use NCB on two cars, and so was looking to use my NCB on the mx-5, and lose it on my xantia. Are there any companies who are sympathetic to this situation, i.e give you discount if you insure both cars with them? Or how do others with more than one car go about insurance? (I haven't had chance to speak to my current insurer yet, but wanted to know if there were any other options.)
A quick Google has thrown up a few companies

www.quickclick-insurance.co.uk
www.LV.com/Insurance
I think the key words in google are "multi car insurance".

If you have a main car in use already, try http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/
Got mine on a limited miles policy, kept in garage and main car used as a daily driver. They are well priced and very easy to deal with.
Cheers,
Matt

Matt, do you have both cars insured with hagerty, or just your mx5? And your limited mileage policy, is that effectively with 0 NCB? CheersGot mine on a limited miles policy, kept in garage and main car used as a daily driver. They are well priced and very easy to deal with.

The Hagerty premium doesn't work in the same way as a traditional NCB policy so effectively I guess it is with 0 NCB, but like I say it's not really how they work - being an 'occasional day' car kept in a garage they treat it in a different way and hence it has a limited miles policy.
Best way is just to give them a call. They are nice blokes, not call centre know-nothings and they'll give you an estimate premium in about 5 mins on the phone. They can answer any queries you have. Oh, and the guy I spoke was very enthusiastic about MX5s and the various models and options - which always makes things a bit more pleasant! I think a lot of the TVR guys use them - that was where I got their name from. They specialise in cherished / low use cars.
Cheers,
Matt
