So as you all know I ordered a dual exit exhaust from MX5Parts this week but i'm having a bit of a panic about whether or not it will fit...

I just want to check before I a) cut the bumper b) take it down to the garage to get it fitted that it will be ok...

The cat on the car measures approx 350mm but MX5Parts website only mentions the 370mm/440mm cats....

So am I panicking about nothing? They've confirmed it will fit but i'm just a bit nervous!

Looking forward to getting it fitted though!

Our's is a 92 (i think) 1.6.... I think it's me not measuring properly! I went out tonight and sprayed lots of 3m wd40 type stuff (can't remember what it's called).

Going out tomorrow but really tempted to get up early, cut the bumper out and get down to the local f1 autocentre and have the exhaust fitted...

Yeah it'll be fine don't worry. Seem to recall similar with mine, there's plenty of leeway under there for the odd inch or two

Got up Saturday morning and cut out the bumper, decided that as the garage would dispose of the old exhuast it was worth paying them the £30 to fit it.

All I can say is haha! Such fun and a good noise!

Just need to have a play about with the positioning of the pipes to get them sitting correctly.

Yep, can we quite loud until 3000rpm then settles down at motorway speeds. Going across Hereford yesterday along the country lanes was great fun!

Well here it is fitted:

I replaced a couple of the rubber mounts this afternoon which has made the exhaust sit correctly - the old ones were very streched.

I've also chanaged the CAS 'o' ring today along with the cam cover gasket. Finally the cam cover was treating to a couple of coats of red.

One slight issue is that I overtightened one of the bolts and snapped the top of the bolt off - damn! It doesn't seem to have affected anything but it will need drilling out and replacing if I ever need to replace the gasket again.

Jobs remaining:
  • Replace suspension
  • Replace stolen "Mazda" badge on the rear of the car
  • Sort out the wet boot (again)
  • Wash and wax ready for the rest of winter
  • Clean up the engine bay
  • Get a replacement rear numberplate made up
I think i'm going to have a busy couple of weekends coming up

I snapped the top off the bolt right at the front of the cam cover which holds on the metal tube which runs around he front of the cover.

I have a garage but wish I could actually get the car in there... hopefully next years "diy" job will be to extend the garage out to the side so that everything can move over to one side, then the car will just slot straight in.
