having ordered one of these on thursday and not having received it yet - I checked Jimparts.co.uk website and its now showing as out of stock. It only cost a quid but I was charged 3 quid for delivery!

I am assuming it won't turn up tomorrow now. The problem being my tame mobile mechanic isnt answering his mobile - is this O ring a standard size thing which he would have in his workshop, or that I could pick up at halfords?

The car needs to go to him tomorrow really - just wondered if the MX5 has some obscure sized part that I can only get from Jimparts or MX5parts - both of which are showing as out of stock!

Where abouts in the country are you? There might be someone local with one hanging around?

Hertfordshire.

Not holding my breath though - they seem to be in short supply!

No point in taking her to get the gasket changed (which I have) if I dont have the O ring!

Hmm, I think finding your local decent plumbing supplier or engineering trade counter (e.g. Wyko) with the offending O ring. It'll be dead cheap. (they may have to order in, but normally v quick)

I think I've got one in the garage that I could pop into the post for you if you're pushed. However, as above, it looks just like a rubber o-ring so could likely be replaced with a stock plumbing o-ring.

there is a bathroom type place local to me, as well as a Jewsons - i'll give them a buzz in the morning. I had no idea MX5's were so flexible in their parts!

Lex - if I have no joy tomorrow I may well take you up on your kind offer!

Just get a real one from a Mazda dealer. They will have them in stock and I doubt it will cost more than the £4 you are paying from Jimparts.

I'm going over to St Albans today anyway so I'll pop in there and see if they can help.

As an aside I am very unimpressed with Jimparts. If it was out of stock (as it is now on the website) why take my order? If it is out of stock and my order taken - at least let me know.

I've tried calling Jimparts several times today and no answer. Left a message to be called back and no reply.

Not very impressed I have to say.

Size is in quote below:

The size of O Ring needed is 1/8” – 1 ½” x 1 3/4”. They run around 59 cents each at about any local auto parts store, or can get this little pack of 4 each for $1.79. As far as I can tell it is made from the same material as the Dealership replacement units. BUNA-N. If you are not sure of this, go ahead and get one from the Dealership. Expect to pay at least $6, even with some sort of discount.

Got this from an American webiste. I'm pretty sure this will be easy to order.

ta for that. Mazda will charge me a couple of quid for one..the St Albans dealer said they had none in stock so I'm picking up one one Wednesday from a dealer in Romford as i'm over that way.

This and a new gasket should see the leak off I'm hoping.. I double checked the sump nut yesterday and it's tight as you like.
