I've got my cylinder head back on (at last) - still to do is a repair to the crank keyway (it was starting to go...) and reconnect the manifolds.

The exhaust manifold gasket consists of many metal plates, anyone know how they should go together? I'm unsure whether they all face the same way (there is a raised part) or if they should be opposed to create a thicker gasket.

Answers on apostcard, or by reply to this thread, greatly appreciated!

(I could ask a similar question about the inlet manifold - which way should the raised part of thatr go...?)

Mine were all joined together by a couple of small weld spots, and I couldn't find anything in any of the rebuild manuals about which way around it should fit, so I think I put the ridged side outermost against the manifold just because it looked like it would be better if it compressed against and formed a shape-match with the slightly rough manifold rather than the completely flat cylinder head.

Thanks Jim - I'll try it that way round,
