Seeing as there have been quite a few posts lately about various problems (and accidents) I thought it was time for some gratuitous posting of our favourite roads for a reminder of why we like driving so much biggrin

So descriptions, maps, photos, etc... (track photos also acceptable cos they're fun).

I'll start things off with my current favourite road:

Should get you to about the right place, then zoom out for a bit of perspective.

By 'that very same road' do you actually mean that exact road (Phillips Rd), or the main Lindis Pass which it detours off?

Just wondering as a 10 mile twisty gravel diversion isn't exactly routine for most visitors to these parts. Though it is used as a stage for the Silver Fern Rally which seems to attract a few UK competitors...

Lindis pass I think. I once drove from Christchurch south and then over that Pass to Wellington and then onto Auckland. Fantastic drive on roads with barely any cars and the most awe inspiring scenery that I have ever seen and most likely will ever see.

yes You would go over the Lindis heading south from Christchurch toward Queenstown. Wellington and Auckland are on a different island though, for which we in the south are truly grateful.

How about fun roads in the UK, are there any?

If you can avoid the potholes long enough to find some I believe there are a few, altho my sick mazda is yet to see any of them grumpy

Oulton park if I'm not very much mistaken, a quality length of blacktop.
My next car and I will be going there once it dries out a bit.

Most of Scotland biggrin Particularly:

A87 Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh. A fantastic long sweeping road with some great well sighted corners. The scenery is absolutely stunning!

A87 all the way across Skye is also great but becomes more barren Approaching and past Portree.

A82 through Glen Coe. The road is good but the scenery can't be beaten anywhere in the world!

Off of the A82, just south of Glen Coe is the Glen Etive road that leads to loch Etive. A really good little single track road through all sorts of scenery with great views of the mountains and finishes in a very picturesque spot.

Applecross Pass. A great Alps style road twisting up over the mountains and back down the other side to Applecross.

B729 Moniave to Carsphairn. Single lane tight twisty road through forest. Feels like a rally stage. You can only go so fast as you can't see far but you'll still cook your brakes before you get to the end biggrin

Not sure where this last picture was taken but Scotland is full of views like this...

I'd not seen your 5 before Lazza, suffice to say its pretty sweet. Nice wheels combo, its it mk2 or 2.5?
Back on topic, I love Scotland for driving roads, but I happen to live near enough the Cat and Fiddle road, that is fun.

yes Lazza seems to have a selection of great pictures of his car, I had the winter one as my desktop for a while! Good looking motor.

I really, really cant wait to get one now. I have lots of favourite roads round North Yorkshire which I love driving in the Gti, but somehow I feel that once I get a roadster, those roads will be even more special.

Thanks for the compliment biggrin
It's a Mk2.5. I also have a set of gunmetal Rota C10 for track days wink

I do have Elise seats. Those photos were from a few years ago with the almost stock Mk2.5 seats. I say almost standard as they are custom covered with light grey leather. They do look really nice to be honest and I do miss them at times but the Elise seats are just so much lighter and allow me to sit so much lower and with a whole lot more leg space that they will be staying in. I still have the old seats under blankets in the garage.

biggrin

Back on topic...
My route to work every day is pretty good, and even better is the road from work to our favourite pub. That's the road from Kingsclere to Overton on the B3051. A very fast straight road which goes up & down over a series of hill finishing with a tight twisty section smile

Correct. One of my best days with the car. Absolutely loved it.

Mine Would have to be.

The Newtownards to Portaferry road in Northern Ireland.

Starts off with fairly smooth sweeping corners, right at the coast. (Ie if u make a big mistake, you will end up swimming)

Goes inland a bit, and the road gets faster and straighter but with some lairy crest that have to be taken with some car. (I once took one of the crests at 60mph in my rover, and got high enough that the car bounced back into the air after landing lol)

Will try to get a vid sometime soon and post a link.

Warren

Portaferry Road (small part of it, would estimate its about 20 miles long)
