Evening all!

After much procrastination, I finally bought an mx-5.

It was very cheap, but as I plan some track days with it, that did not bother me.

It needs a new hood, and the handling is very boat like, I think it badly needs new springs and dampers, but having been imported in 2005 it has no rust, the engine pulls very strong, its a 1.8, the air con is ice cold, quick shift kit (ahhhh that gear change is loverly!) All in all a bit of a bargain I reakon! (Has had a fair bit of paint)

£1225. The seller was a mighty nice chap smile

I am based in South west Wales now, anyone know a good place to discuss Roll cage and suspension with?

very nice =] sounds like you got a good deal! I'm picking up my mk1 this week, can't wait.

I don't know about roll cages. but people say the hard dog roll bar is good http://www.mx5mad.com/product_info.php?cPath=25_29...

Cheers Dennis, I will give them a call...

The suspension and roll cage should be less of a problem, there must be more than a few threads on it on here and MX-5!

if you're serious about tracking it, then remove the soft top and frame and just fit a hard-top as it's lighter. it will also add stiffness tho if you're getting a decent roll bar that will help anyway. look on mx5nutz.com for lots of modifying info esp on suspension etc

good buy! smile

Goes to show how overpriced a lot of them are in the ads, in my opinion!

It's not so much that most are overpriced, more that the bargains are out there if you are patient and really go looking for them.

Cheers chaps! smile

It has done 140k km, so 90k Miles.

In the first 2 weeks I owned it, it has covered:

Manchester - Surrey - Manchester - Surrey - Kent - Surrey - Wales. Add in a few little trips, and its seen well over 1000 miles.

Baptism of fire! But it hasn't missed a beat. Although the wind and rain set the alarm off two nights ago.

Thanks for the advice about hard top. I have bought it with track days in mind, but will use it on the road too, so... Bit of a compromise needed.

It looks like the hardtop will give you a lot more rear vision around the 'b' pillar too. As I never drive iwth the top down I'm looking forward to getting the hard top. It may cut out some motorway noise too?

yes screen in hardtop is a lot wider than in the soft-top which does help especially pulling out at some junctions smile

they are also a bit more water-tight as they go over the lip at the back, whereas with the soft-top any rain runs down the hood and along the rain rail, and down the drain tubes inside the car. you do get wet when you open the door tho...
