rear screen polishing

That's the one. Trust me, it really does work and can be picked up from ebay relatively cheaply. You don't need a big tub of the stuff as once it's done it is very easy to maintain thereafter. The results are stunning, honestly.I've heard very good things about the BMW stuff too. Those that have used it all recommend it.
When I had a Mk1 I just used car body polish. Each time I washed the car I used Autoglym Super Resin Polish which is just abrasive enough to remove the clouding without marking the screen and for deeper marks I used T-Cut (followed by EGP).

I should add that I had that Mk1 for over 7 years from new and the rear screen was like new when I sold it.When I had a Mk1 I just used car body polish. The other thing I did was to buy a rear screen protector - basically a soft padded envelope that the rear screen goes in when you put the top down. Stops it picking up scratches from the carpet and the hood & zip resting on it.
