Hello all,

Had my alternator replaced 2 months back, since then i've been through 6 belts. Finally gave in and took it back to the garage who replaced the alternator originally and its not lined up correctly... Looking at it the pulley sticks out too far and the belt is not straight, which is causing it to jump then shred itself..

The garage have said that the correct alternator is fitted as per the chassis number, Mazda and their part numbers however they have said the alternator from a 1.8 (mines a 1.6) will fit and line the belt up correctly as the pully is 5mm closer to the alternator... They are now disputing the engine in the car.. they say 'Am i sure its not a 1.8, have I changed the engine' etc etc..

Its a 92 Eunos, the writing on the rocker cover is indented and the chassis number indicates a 1.6 engine... Could i be wrong..

Are there any identification numbers on the engine that indicate the size?

Has anyone else come across this problem either with the engine or the alternator?

I'd appreciate any help possible as the garage is usless, the only reason i'm using them is its costing me sod all!

Cheers

Cheers Lazza, I knew it was, the garage are fools.

They have just called to say they have fitted the alternator for a 1.8 and everything lines up fine. I'll give it an inspection later but i guess provding it lines up ok then there shouldn't be a problem.
