Folks,

I'm a wee bit confused here.
My mate has a 1992 Eunos (think it says that in the docs he has)

Thing is the V5 says it's a 1.8, but I have been told there was no 1.8 made till 1994.
Which is correct?? He's trying to sell the car just now and wants to make sure all the info is correct.

Cheers in advance

I thought they came very early in '93?

I'm sure an expert will be along to confirm a date/time wink

It is probably just an error in the paperwork when it was done unless some one has done an engine change and fitted the 1.8.

The MK1 1.8 did come out in 1993. I a few years back I had a '93 L reg 1.8. I think they were introduced late 93 as never seen and early '93 K reg 1.8 mx5s.

Is it BRG? J692 WEP? It may be my old '92 plate Eunos that I replaced the engine on. When the 1.6 died I replaced it for a later 1.8 unit.

Cheers for the reply folks.
T5SOR, it's red, so not your old car.

Got him to check the docs again and it states engine size as 18000, so that's def a mistake.

It's a 1.6. Oh well, guess he better change his insurance now, at least it should be cheaper smile

There should be a Vehicle Information sticker inside the drivers door near the latch looking something like...

As for the engine itself, there are a couple of easy to spot visual clues: The 1.6 has sunken lettering on the cam-cover whereas it's raised on the 1.8 and the 1.6 has a square mostly aluminium AFM compared to the round plastic one on the 1.8 (you'll fine it where the intake crossover pipe meets the air-filter box).

I've never heard of a '92 1.8 but it's possibly a very early one - I don't know when the first 1.8s were released.

You can also tell from the VIN number: if VIN starts NA6CE it's a 1.6, if it starts NA8C it's a 1.8.
