Some mk 2 questions

Hope you guys can help.

1. My speakers have packed in, I think they've blown. The left speaker wasn't working when I bought the car, the right hand side was but now only the tweeter works until I turn the volume up to 8 or so, then the main speaker comes into play sounding buggered. What size speakers does the mk2 1.8s take?

2. Should the light on the dashboard come on when the heated rear screen is working? Mine doesn't. Not sure the heated screen is working.

3. Can you buy new rubber covers for the pedals? Mine are a bit worn and I'd like to replace them (along with the gear knob) when I given the interior a thorough clean.

1. Stock speakers are probably 5"x7". You can replace directly but would be better off fitting something bigger/better.
The 5x7s fit in a blanking plate which fits over an 8" hole so plenty of people fit 8" speakers.
I have 6.5" 2-way separates with the mid/bass unit on an MDF plate and the tweeters replacing those in the doors (Mk2.5).

2. Not sure, I can't remember and I don't have my car handy to take a peek...

The light is on the switch on mine.

Cheers for the replies, can 8 inch speakers be fitted discreetly under the door cards and speaker grills?

As long as they are fairly flat across the front.
