Hi all, new in these parts but I'm after a bit of advise,

We are looking at a mk3 2.0 sport and took one out last weekend that we are going to make an offer on today, however when coming off the gas in 1st there was a slight 'metallic' sound. The dealer says his mechanics have taken it out and they all make a slight sound in 1st & 3rd when coming off the power, can anyone confirm this or know what could be causing it?

It was reasonably quiet and could only be heard with the hood up.

Thanks in advance, Andy

Best place to ask this question is on MX-5 OC forum. There are quite a few Mk3 owners over there.

Let us know what they say. It's always useful to have this sort of info around for others who need it yes

Little bit O/T but my Mk1 makes a funny drivetrain noise in 3rd gear too, when coming off the power and coasting you can sort of hear it whirring slightly......

I had my brake hoses replaced a couple of months ago and afterwards I was getting a metallic vibration noise when coming off the gas. Was a bit intermittent for a couple of weeks and then it just stopped. Not sure what the problem was as everything underneath seems secure.

Is it a brand new MK3? Perhaps some of the metal work hasn't been bedded down with gunk yet so it's a bit tinny/rattly at the mo?
