Sloshing sound in door / panel by rear wheel
Discussion
Went to have a look at a Mk1 last night and whilst on the test drive both me and the missus could hear a very noticeable sloshing sound coming from the passenger door / rear panel area.
Is this where the roof drains away into? When we pulled up there was some water coming from the bottom of the sill, which I assume is a drain hole? It really did sound like there was a lot of water in there though, is it possible one of the drainage channels is blocked or is something else to blame?
Also, I need to have a little moan about the car, as the owner described it as 'in really good nick' only to find scabby rear arches, a long bollard interface type scratch on the front wing and two big holes in the roof, which he tried to tell us that it didnt leak, even though half the passenger seat was soaked.
It was the first we have looked at though, so Im a bit more aware of what to look at now, so it wasnt a total waste of time. Would have been more annoyed if it was further away than it was though.

You need rodding..
Straighten a metal coat hanger, and find the drain holes, there's one either side of the car level with your shoulder... The drain hole will no doubt be blocked and that's were the sloshing if coming from..
If you notice a piece of rubber cover the hole on the underside of the car, it's supposed to be there!

Yeah the sills have drain holes in them. They get blocked and water sloshes around. Just can be unblocked using a stiff cable tie.
As for a scabby roof. You can get them from ~£200 upwards depending on the quality you want. So try and knock £300 or so off the price of the car if it's got a bad roof. (unless the price already reflects the bad roof...)

Thought as much.
It was pretty well priced, but with the rust and scratch I dont really want to make an offer on it. Red paint never seems to match up if you have any touch up work done and I dont know a good bodyshop in the area that I would trust to do a good job. Plus I dont want to be getting involved with having to replace a hood straight away.
There is another one nearby that we're hopefully going to take a look at this weekend, that looks tidy from the pics, plus its had a recent roof!
Thanks guys.
